Holy Cross Church emphasizes sound biblical teaching in a dynamic and visual style. Weekly children's messages, engaging music and occasional dramas are featured at all of our worship services. Click here for a list of special events during the year.
ariety of Worship StylesHoly Cross offers a variety in music styles at its services, everything from formal classical music and traditional hymns, to celtic folk songs and rousing country western. Throughout the year, these different styles reflect the patterns of the church year.
On a weekly basis, the three different services offer a choice to worshippers:
Saturday Night Country & Gospel Service 5:00 pm
This informal service features the unique sounds of country and gospel music in both the liturgy and the hymns. The sermon is taught in bible-study fashion concentrating on a particular book of the bible (like the Adult Forum). And the dress is casual!
Traditional Service Sunday 8:00 am
For this service, we use the traditional formal liturgy and familiar old hymns from the Lutheran Book of Worship. Music is presented in a more classical style, accompanied by piano or organ, with music from the choir. During the season of Lent (mid-winter), Holy Cross offers Wednesday evening Lenten Services in a quiet and reverent style.
Contemporary Service Sunday 10:30 am
This is an alternative service which uses a blend of modern Christian music, featuring guitar, drums, and other instruments, done in a more upbeat and informal style. Music is led by one of our praise bands or the youth band. The Contemporary Service is normally where we feature special children's programs and music from the Sunday School children.
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is served at Holy Cross on a weekly basis. We come to the table at the invitation of our Lord himself, receiving the body and blood of Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, believing that Christ is truly present for us in this sacrament.
Any baptized Christians who wish to join in this fellowship - both members and non-members - are welcome to come forward to receive Holy Communion. Children who have not yet received their First Communion are invited to come forward for a blessing.
At the Traditional Service:
Holy Communion is served at the altar rail, with participants receiving a piece of bread and a small cup of wine (the darker glasses contain regular wine; the lighter glasses are non-alcoholic wine).
At the Contemporary & Country/Gospel Services:
Holy Communion is served by "intinction." Participants are given a wafer of bread, which is dipped in the cup of wine (non-alcoholic wine is used).
Weddings: Anyone who is an active member of Holy Cross Church may request a date for their wedding by contacting one of the pastors. Normally, weddings are not conducted for those who have no connection to Holy Cross.
Funerals: The pastors and congregation of Holy Cross will seek to minister to those who are grieving, regardless of whether they are members or not. Funerals may be held at the church or at the funeral home.
