Music Ministry

Holy Cross puts a strong emphasis on music ministry. Our congregation values the gift of music as a testament to the glory of God, and as a means by which we offer our prayer and praise to our Lord and Savior.
 

As a “liturgical” church, we believe that worship in not a ’spectator sport’  but that it should involve everyone present. Congregational singing is encouraged in hymns, and a song leader or choir is assigned to each service to help lead the people in singing.
 

Likewise, we consider the special music of soloists and groups in worship as an offering to God, not as a performance; applause is welcome as a way for the congregation to say “amen” to the musician’s offering.

  

Rebecca’s Well

Rebecca’s Well is a musical outreach ministry of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Maple Lake, Minnesota. The band performs contemporary Christian Music, in a variety of styles including: folk, rock, country, and gospel. The band’s original music, written by Pastor Steve and Becky King, seeks to communicate the biblical message of salvation by grace through faith in Christ, expressed in the richness of a liturgical and sacramental theology.

 
Rebecca's Well has performed in concert in both large and small venues, and has led worship and outreach services for churches throughout the area. Their celebrated “Country Music Service” has drawn recognition from across the state and includes both new and old country and western favorites.

Other Music Groups

There are a number of musical groups within the congregation, each with a different style or format. We welcome people of various skill levels, to share their talents:

• The Adult Choir sings classical choral music, usually at the traditional service. The choir meets throughout the school year, normally practicing on Wednesday evenings.

• Our Praise Bands help lead music at the second service, playing contemporary Christian music, with guitar, drums and keyboard. The two groups switch off every other week.

• The Youth Band is a group made up of high school students who play for various services throughout the year. This is a great way for young people to use their skills, and be involved in worship leadership.

• Soloists, Duets and Instrumentalists provide special music at either the traditional or contemporary services. Both adults and children are welcome to provide music for services.

Holy Cross School of Music

In order to provide for the next generation of church musicians, Holy Cross takes seriously the responsibility of helping young people develop their musical talents. The Holy Cross School of Music is a ministry of music education at the church. We host individual piano lessons by Wendy Clark, guitar lessons by Becky King, and drum lessons by Rick Dingwall.
  
Lessons are open to both members and non-members alike. Space is limited; contact the church or the specific teachers for more information about times and fees.
